power flitting

Tag It feature lets you save things in your search trail

No more battling with bookmarks or printing pages of products.  To make flitting even easier, flit now lets you capture any item in any store and tag it into your shopping trail (that little line of store icons that show where you've been).  When you save your shopping session all them items are also saved so when you continue shopping they are right there for you.  You can also share your tagged items with a friend by simply forwarding them the link so they can look too and give recommendations.

You can view the items you've tagged by clicking on the blue shopping bags. Tagging things is easy.  If you're in a store that has the flit navbar at the top, just copy the item # or description of the thing you like (select the text, right-click > copy).  Now just click on the gray Tag It box (see below), paste in the item (right-click > paste), and click the 'Tag It' button.  When you go back to your trail you'll find a blue bag under the store you just visited.

If you're in a store that doesn't have a navbar then copy the item number the same way and paste it into the tag-it box that will appear when you go back to the flit search page. Once you have tagged items you can use the 'Save my shopping session' to email yourself a link to continue shopping later and to share with friends.

Please let us know how it works for you and any improvements we can make.  Just email us shop@flit.com – we love hearing from you.

Here are 10 quick tips to help take your flitting to the next level:

#1  Flit directly to a store

When shopping you often think of a specific store you want to look-in. To get to it quickly just type in the name of the store in the search box and flit will take you to the category that the store is found in. If the category is long just sort the category from A to Z or Z to A using the radio buttons above the search and voila - there is your store all ready to be searched. You can then use the drop-down history of past searches to pick up your last search term without entering a thing!

#2  Be a Search Trail pro

You've probably seen how the search trail keeps a visual record of the stores you've been to and lets you go back to them at anytime. Well, the search trail can do more by clicking on the 'show store tagger' link at the left of the trail. When you click this an extra row will unfold that has a checkbox for each store you've been to. You can use this checkbox to mark stores that had something of interest. It's best to mark stores the moment you come back to the search page. If your list of stores visited gets large you can clean up your trail to just those that have been checked by using the 'clear unchecked' link at the top left of the search trail (note this feature is only shown when you have the show store tagger turned on).

#3  Flit less - locally

When running errands locally there are often things we want to buy that would be available from several similar stores. Let's say you want to pick up a desk organizer to help unclutter your home office mess. You could of course jump in the car and schelp between your local office stores - OfficeMax, Office Depot and Staples. With flit.com you can just punch in 'desk organizer' once, get taken straight to the office category, and then with just three clicks see what each has to offer. Odds are you'll see the one you want at a price that works and save yourself two trips. Just to be safe you can also use the store's check availability features to make sure they have one in stock (one more click and a zip code!). You even get to shop a little greener.

#4  Window shopping!

As you've seen, flit.com works by initiating a search in a new window for the stores you click on. Clicking the orange button, closes that window and takes you back to the search page. Well, as you might have already found, there is no need to close a window before returning to your search. You can go back to search in two ways depending on whether you have your browser set to use tabs or not. If you see tabs at the top of your browser page getting back to the flit.com search page is as easy as clicking the tab marked 'Flit between..' (it should also be sporting the Flit orange logo). If you are not using tabs, then look for the window named 'Flit between..' in your taskbar at the bottom of your screen and click that. Keeping windows open is very handy if you've found something you really like. We designed the orange button to close the store window just to keep things simple, but as you see here, you can window shop to your heart's-content.

#5  I'll be back (to shop)

We very rarely start and finish an online shopping trip in one go. Quite often we'll start something at lunchtime, pick it up at home that evening, then wait a day to two before finalizing and making a purchase. Restarting a search from scratch at each of these points and trying to remember where you've already looked and what you found is a lot of work. Fear not! One of the most powerful features on flit.com is the ability to save your entire shopping session at any point and return to it exactly as you left it hours, days or weeks later! The feature works by using a simple email without you even needing to log in or enter a password. The feature is found the bottom right of the search trail - 'save your shopping session'. You simply enter your email address and flit.com will send you a unique link. The subject of the link will contain your last search term - e.g. 'silver mirror' - so finding it is easy. When you click on the link it will take you directly to your search with your search trail and search history all restored so you can pick-up right where you left off. You can even share your session with a friend. If you keep your emails stored, you can use them to go back to any searches you did earlier and reuse them. We do this a lot for our regular shopping needs.

#6  Site blast!

This is a technique that you wouldn't have done without flit. It's particularly useful early on when you are first shopping for something new. It involves entering your search and then just doing a quick dash around on lots of different sites to get a feel for what's available and who has what. It's a good idea to do your search in a mix of premium stores and value stores as these will give you different ideas and angles. The great thing is that with flit.com you can easily look through 15 sites in just a few minutes and get that initial overview before getting more particular. Plus it's also a fun retail experience as every site's look and feel and way of presenting things is different and interesting.

#7  Work your related categories

This is a simple one. For each of the category tabs there is a clickable list at the bottom of related categories. These can be your friend. They let you jump to categories that could be helpful. For example if you're in Sports, a related category is Sport Footwear - which might be just what you want. So its right there for you, with just a single click.

#8  Have your cake and eat it too

Of course flit lets you search inside all your favorite stores directly, but when you wish you can also search using comparison shopping engines. It's as easy as clicking the 'General' tab and then picking the engine of your choosing. Once you have narrowed your search, the comparison engines are good for finding out if you've got the best deal or at least one that is good enough.

#9  Reviewing reviews

The internet provides an amazing range of reviews and user feedback on just about everything. On the 'Reviews' tab we provide single click searching of some of the top review and blog searching sites on the web. If the review tab is not visible just click the 'More.." categories tab and select 'Reviews'. You can submit your search term to any of the sites there just by clicking their store button.

#10  Give the gift of shopping!

As a power-shopper there is nothing more satisfying than helping somebody else out. So give the gift! You can help a friend by sharing your list of favorite stores using the 'share your favorites with a friend' link on the favorites tab. When your friend clicks the link they will immediately have your favorites added to their own. It's really helpful to be pointed to a range of great stores. You can also send them an entire shopping session; either your current one, or forward them an older one that you saved. With this your friend will get an entire search trail of stores you visited for that shop. A nice visual way to help them discover some new stores and the things you looked for in them. If you and a friend each send the other your favorite store, your lists will both grow together.

Have fun power-flitting!
